WWII plane emerges off Welsh beach

“Hidden under the sand and waves since it crashed off the coast of Wales in 1942, the location of this Lockheed P38 Lightning has been kept a secret.

“Known as the Maid of Harlech, the United States Army Air Force fighter crashed on the Gwynedd coast in training exercises. Pilot Lt Robert Elliott walked away from the incident but went missing in action three months later in Tunisia.

“The previously undetected Lightning appeared on a Wales beach in 2024 when shifting water displaced the sand”
