Wood’s 100 Old Navy Rum “Christmas at sea” vintage photograph competition

“It’s time to dig out all your old navy photographs. Wood’s 100 Old Navy Rum wants to track down all those vintage and rarely seen photos of life on-board over the Christmas period and it has launched a nationwide search, offering entrants the chance to win £500 of Bosch tools. In addition to the winning prize, the first 3 runners up and the first 3 entries will win a bottle of Wood’s 100 Old Navy Rum, the real original. Competition entries must be received by Sunday 5th December.

We want to see all those old pictures of Christmas on-board, be they happy, lonely, quirky or amusing. But they must be your own pictures, or that of a relative and should be accompanied by a sentence explaining what they mean to you.”

How to be a Retronaut is one of the judging panel for Wood’s “Christmas at sea” vintage photograph competition and the first six entries from readers of How to be a Retronaut will get themselves a bottle of Wood’s rum.

Entries can be via:

1. Facebook: Like the Navy News Facebook page and upload your entries. Pictures should be labelled “Wood’s 100 Christmas at Sea Competition – Retronaut”.
2. Email: Subject headings should be “Wood’s 100 Christmas at Sea Competition – Retronaut”.
3. Post: Wood’s Rum, Steel House, Alexander Place, 13-17 Princess Road, Richmond, Surrey, TW10 6DQ.
…..

The Wood’s 100 Old Navy Rum judging panel, including How to be a Retronaut, will review all the entries and winners will be informed by Monday 13th December 2024.

    Clarification:

    One entry per person

Does this mean one photograph per person may only be submitted?

To continue with the marine theme, you may be jumping the shark with this, by going commercial. And the competition is so exclusive! What percentage of your readers do you think has spent Christmas on board a ship?

I hope it’s a one-off, because this is a great site and I’m here almost every day.

  • Jodi

That’s a shame. These are photos I would love to see. Maybe they could submit only one photo for the contest, but submit others that would not be considered for the contest?

  • Hi Paul, thanks for your comment. HtbaR has been approached by several brands and other commercial organisations to promote products. We usually turn such promotions down. We decided to support this competition for a number of reasons - we felt that raising awareness of people at sea at Christmas was an aim we supported, we felt that a brand like Wood’s with such longevity had something Retronautic about it, and of course, the competition centred around vintage images. We will publish the images on HtbaR when the competition closes. HtbaR isn’t being paid to be a judge for this competition. We also have a whole bunch of new and exciting Retronautic tools coming soon, all for free.

  • Hi Jodi. We will publish the competition entries that we judge after the closing date, and we certainly welcome all any other submissions for inclusion on HtbaR.

Very seasonal. Sounds a great idea to me! I don’t have anything to offer but will look forward to seeing the entries at some point :-)

Can currency lads and lasses apply, or is this UK only?

  • Sadly its UK only, Barbara.

  • Rich Spencer

Wish I could take part as I’m quite a fan of Woods myself, but I don’t have anything to offer! I look forward to seeing the results though, sounds like an interesting theme.
