The “piano/jukebox” is actually a pianola. They work by blowing air through a series of tubes (one for each note). Paper is then run over the outlets with holes punched in to allow the air to flow through and the correct note to be played. The ones people had in their homes needed to be pedalled manually, but ones in public bars and other places were automatic, and coin-operated like this one.
