Especially the old merry-go-rounds at the beginning! We had one in our park and it was great! If I could get a hold of one, I'd put it in my yard! I know because I got on it with a boyfriend and he could run faster than I and got it going too fast, and I fell out! That'll teach this grandma to stay off of the kid toys! :-D There’s still one of the ‘human hamster wheel’ things in Lithia Park in Ashland, Oregon. It is quite obvious for me now that the space race influenced the playgrounds pretty strongly on the capitalist as well as on the communist side of the world. Not only the Sovietunion, but the Central Eropean region was also full of "rocket" climbers. And yes, they're largely gone by now... It was really interesting to see these photos. That kind of playground equipment is long gone from mainland Australia. We came across it unexpectedly, and my children had one of the most enjoyable afternoons of their holiday. I can remember playing in one of those. You know, they didn't have to stop producing them, all they had to do was make the "bars" a tiiiiiny bit closer, and they wouldnta had kids get heads stuck in them.
