My mother went to see her on stage in 1948 and told me that Phyllis was beautiful, carefree and a little hard. My mother also remembers that her husband was rude, unpleasant man which was the route of Phyllis's mothers dislike for him. Later in life, she took to drinking following her bankrupsey however, the family did not support her as much as they could have becuase of her husbands previous behaviour towards them. It is safe to say, nobody in the family had a problem with what Phyllis did and the show she performed. Her family certainly supported her in her early years - cousins, etc all went to see her shows.
